What does it cost?

All users pay a yearly activation fee – for businesses it’s £20.  This signals to others that you’re engaged on the site.

For projects, set and agree a gross hourly rate before you appoint a mum (but please note we don’t accept projects at under £15/hour).

We charge a 10% admin fee and a 1.5% payment processing fee on any project fees paid to a mum.  VAT is only payable on the admin fee and payment processing fee.

How and when do I pay?

Upon appointment of a mum, an initial desposit is paid.  For short projects (less than two weeks) it’s 50% of the estimated project value.  For longer projects, it’s the estimated hours of the first two weeks of the project.

No funds are ever released to a mum until work has been approved and hours agreed.

Once the project commences, hours are submitted by the mum every two weeks for your approval. When the work and hours are approved, invoices are generated for payment within 14 days.

At the end of the project, we reconcile the total project hours against the initial deposit. This may mean a balancing payment is due, or you may be entitled to a partial refund.

Frequently asked questions

Why do you take a deposit?

This enables our mums to be paid promptly after they have completed any initial work.

Is my deposit refundable?

We reconcile the total project hours against the initial deposit once a project is complete.

This may mean you are due a partial refund on your initial deposit, or a top up balancing payment may be due. Either way, you only pay for hours completed and approved.

Are my payments secure?

We use Stripe to process all your payments, and hold any deposits. Deposit payments are not held by Army of Mums.

What about IR35 and other legal requirements?

We currently only allow mums to join our site if they are outside IR35 for tax and NI purposes. This usually means they are self-employed freelancers and set-up as sole traders.

We do not currently allow mums to join the site if they are paid via a PSC (Personal Services Company), a Limited Company or an Umbrella PAYE company, as this may mean they are inside IR35 for tax and NI purposes.

We also only allow mums to join if they have the right to work in the UK.

(If you have any concerns about a mum’s eligibility to work with you, we advise that you confirm this before engaging them on a project.)

What if there’s a problem?

The first port of call is the mum that’s delivering the project. If it’s a problem that can’t be resolved just notify us via email, and we’re here to help you get the project back on track.
